We are delighted to announce that the Secretariat of Hong Kong Mediation Centre (HKMC) will move to the Legal Hub of Department of Justice (DoJ) in the early 2019, the soonest, which is located in the West Wing of the former Central Government Offices (CGO) and the former French Mission Building (FMB) in Central.
Pursuant to the policy objective of enhancing Hong Kong’s status as a leading centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region, the Government will provide certain space to Law Related Organisations in the West Wing of the former CGO and FMB. Together with the DoJ offices in the Main Wing, the East Wing and part of the West Wing of the former CGO, the whole area is intended to form a legal hub at the heart of Hong Kong.
Given the fact that HKMC is the first non-profit professional mediation organisation with charitable status, we actively collaborate with local and overseas mediation / arbitration organisations and are well known by many mediation / arbitration organisations around the world. Moreover, in order to promote mediation across the border, HKMC jointly set up the “Mainland – Hong Kong Joint Mediation Center” in December 2015 with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) / China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) Mediation Center. Our efforts and contribution in promoting the development of mediation have been recognised by the Hong Kong Government. As a result, HKMC’s application to use space in the Legal Hub is approved by the DoJ and certain space has been allocated to us.
Looking forward, HKMC will harness the advantages brought about by being situated in the Legal Hub and continue to devote efforts in enhancing the status of mediation in the world.
